The Weather May Change Yet He Remains The Same

“For I am the Lord, I do not change”

Malachi 3:6

It had been a strange day. The morning sun rose early, coloring the fields of hay. Quickly it melted away even the slightest trace of dew from the beautiful rosebushes growing near the side of the house. It seemed to be the beginning of a very beautiful early summer day.

The day’s activities were mapped out on a schedule to be sure nothing would be left out. It was going to be a very busy day with a very tight schedule. Yet somehow, the sunshine seemed to almost be empowering, and it brought with it an energizing force that seemed to motivate us through the maze of madness upon which we were about to embark.

While preparing for the longer part of the day, the sunshine that danced upon the walls was replaced by dark shadows and very suddenly, a storm came upon us from out of nowhere. Without warning, the rain began to pellet the roof and fall in sheets down the windows. We scurried around closing this and that, commenting on how quickly the storm had arrived. We also began changing the day’s itinerary, scratching off things like baseball practices and ball games. The intensity of the storm left it’s mark and even when the rain let up, the dark clouds remained.

Suddenly I felt the energy drain out of my body. The only thing I could think of was taking a nap. Not only had the weather changed suddenly…our plans had changed…and my energy level took a nosedive.

Sometimes that happens to us in our spiritual walk. We feel energized as we wake up with the glory of The Son of God shining upon us. He gives us a view of a world colored by His love. All is well with us as we bask in the warmth of His love and presence in our lives.

But then—without warning—a storm very suddenly comes into our lives. Perhaps it is a loss of something or someone we hold dear, or we become ill, or a special relationship crumbles. The light of His love is overshadowed by the darkness, and the rhythm of the rain seems only to add to the pain we begin to feel.

Our plans for excelling in the things of God are changed. Our desire to fulfill our purpose in Him is overcome with a spiritual sluggishness that leaves us feeling drained and empty. Even when the initial storm is over, the dark clouds remain and our spirit is drained of dreams and desires. The weather change came, and it changed everything.

How comforting, then, the Word of the Lord is to us with the powerful declaration that He makes, “For I Am The Lord, I change not.” He is not like the weather, subject to sudden changes. He is not moved by circumstances or situations. He is stable, secure, and UNCHANGING.

It is important to know and remember that. Not only is God not like us or like the weather, His plan and purpose for us does not change, no matter what comes along. We may be caught off guard from time to time and find shadows where His “Son shine” once was, but the storm does not last forever. Eventually the dark clouds roll away and are replaced by glorious light…and sometimes even a rainbow.

Your world may be ever changing but be of good cheer today because Your God never changes. He has a plan for you to prosper you in all that you do. He has a plan to make you more than a conqueror through Christ Jesus, and He has a plan for you to live with Him forever in paradise.

Thank God, because of the Blood of Jesus that plan will never change.

When you find yourself hit by changing weather and sudden storms, reach out to the Lord Who never changes. Let Him lead you on. And don’t forget to look for the rainbows!
